An initiative of the Texas Geocaching Association
World Cleanup Day weekend · 2026
What could happen if geocachers around the world came together on one day to make their communities cleaner?
Saturday, September 19, 2026 ·One day·Every time zone
The day travels west, 24 hours, 24 time zones
A little over two years ago georeyna, the Southeast Representative for the Texas Geocaching Association, came up with the idea to organize a coordinated series of CITO® events held in conjunction with World Cleanup Day. Geocachers throughout Texas would host cleanup events in their own communities on the same day. Each event is locally organized, but together they become part of something much bigger.
CITO Across Texas was born.
During 2024 and 2025:
CITO events held across Texas
Volunteers took part
Of trash removed from parks, trails, waterways, neighborhoods, and other public spaces
In 2026, we took the next step. Geocachers everywhere are invited to join us for CITO Across the World on Saturday, September 19, 2026, and the response has already carried us past our original goal.
Our goal
At least 100 coordinated CITO events
Every event, anywhere in the world, counts toward the total.
Imagine hundreds or even thousands of geocachers working in their own communities on the same day. Every event may be local, but together our efforts can create a truly global impact.
Every published CITO Across the World event is collected in a single bookmark list on Geocaching.com. The list grows as new events are published, so check back as September approaches.

Viewing the list requires a free Geocaching.com account. Not hosting an event yourself? Attending one nearby is just as valuable, and every pair of hands counts.
We are looking for geocachers willing to organize and host a CITO event in their community.
Select a public area that could benefit from a cleanup.
Let Brian Erickson (BE Viking) know you would like to participate by emailing [email protected]. Include your name, your geocaching name, and the city, state, province, or country where you plan to hold your event.
Create a CITO event for Saturday, September 19, 2026.
To connect the events under a common identity, we will use a shared naming convention and some consistent text in the description, along with a common logo on each event page. Brian will send you everything you need, and your event will be added to the shared bookmark list.
Promote your event through local geocaching organizations, social media groups, and volunteer groups.
Gather your volunteers, clean up your selected area, have fun, and show your community what geocachers can accomplish when we work together.
After your event, send Brian a brief summary that includes:
We will combine the results from participating events to show the collective impact made by geocachers around the world.
A CITO Across the World shirt is on the way, listing every participating country on the back. Proceeds support the event.

You do not need to organize a massive cleanup to make a difference.
An event with five people cleaning a neighborhood park is just as much a part of this effort as an event with a hundred volunteers cleaning a major park.
