World Cleanup Day weekend · 2026
Saturday, September 19, 2026 ·One day·Every time zone
The day travels west — 24 hours, 24 time zones
What could happen if geocachers around the world came together on one day to make their communities cleaner?
How it started
A little over two years ago georeyna, the Southeast Representative for the Texas Geocaching Association, came up with the idea to organize a coordinated series of CITO® events held in conjunction with World Cleanup Day. Geocachers throughout Texas would host cleanup events in their own communities on the same day. Each event is locally organized, but together they become part of something much bigger.
CITO Across Texas was born.
What happened next
The results have been tremendous. During 2024 and 2025:
CITO events held across Texas
Volunteers took part
Of trash removed from parks, trails, waterways, neighborhoods, and other public spaces
What's next
In 2026, we are taking the next step and going global. We are inviting geocachers everywhere to join us for CITO Across the World on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
At least 50 coordinated CITO events across multiple states and countries.
That's our goal for World Cleanup Day weekend. With the support of the worldwide geocaching community, we believe we can meet — and far exceed — it.
Imagine hundreds or even thousands of geocachers working in their own communities on the same day. Every event may be local, but together our efforts can create a truly global impact.
Event listings, host resources, and a way to add your own CITO to the map are on the way. Until then, reach us at [email protected].
